A devastating explosion ripped through a number of buildings in New Ferry in March 2017, causing extensive damage, injuring 30 people, and destroyed a number of leaded lights in the historic conservation are of Port Sunlight. You can find out more about this on the Liverpool Echo website.
The historic village of Port Sunlight was founded by William Hesketh Lever in 1888 and built to house the Sunlight Soap factory workers. Today it is a thriving community and the area has over 900 Grade II listed buildings.
Following the explosion K. G. Bell Ltd was called in to repair the leaded lights in a number of listed buildings in the village. As window frames and casements were in good order, the mastercraftsmen at the K. G. Bell glass studio repaired the leaded panels and refitted them into the original wood frames.
